The Kanpur Couple Behind the Time Machine Scam
In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a couple executed a large scam, tricking elderly individuals out of ₹35 crore by promoting an 'Israel-made time machine' that allegedly reversed aging. Rajeev Kumar Dubey and his wife, Rashmi Dubey, ran a fraudulent therapy center called Revival World in Kidwai Nagar, claiming their machine could change a 60-year-old into a youthful 25-year-old.
'Youth Restoration through Oxygen Therapy'
Capitalizing on the fears of aging, the Dubeys convinced seniors that pollution was accelerating their aging process and that their imported time machine, combined with oxygen therapy, could reverse the effects. They promised visible results within months, charging ₹6,000 for 10 sessions or offering a more expensive three-year plan for ₹90,000.
According to police officer Anjali Vishwakarma, who spoke with NDTV, dozens of people were taken in by the couple's false promises.
The Pyramid Trap
Victims like Renu Singh Chandel, who lost ₹10.75 lakh, revealed that the scam also operated as a pyramid scheme. Clients were offered free sessions if they brought in new customers, further expanding the couple's reach. In total, around 25 couples were defrauded, with losses totaling ₹35 crore.
The Dubeys have since gone into hiding, and authorities suspect they’ve fled the country. A manhunt is in progress, with airports being closely monitored to prevent their escape.
